The Millennium Hotel in Buffalo, NY was the location for the 2013 LTA of NY Trustee Institute on May 3rd and 4th this year. This marked the first time an annual Institute was held at the western end of the state. Trustees from three western systems, Buffalo Erie County, NIOGA, and Chautauqua/Cattaraugus gathered for a chance to learn more about being a trustee, recognize regional award winners and to network. Mother Nature provided sunny, warm weather, making travel convenient.

This year’s institute did not include a library tour due to the size of the western region. However, a new workshop, offered by Libby Post, started the Institute off before the traditional welcome reception. Friday’s dinner included welcome by the three area system directors; recognition of Outstanding Trustee, Outstanding Friend and Distinguished Service award winners. Rocco Termini provided keynote comments after an excellent dinner.

Saturday provided an opportunity for two large group and three concurrent sessions on a variety of topics. All were well attended. The highlight of the luncheon was the presentation of the Velma K. Moore award, LTA’s annual recognition of dedicated service to libraries.

The 2014 Trustee Institute will move to another region in our State. Check this website and the quarterly Trustee newsletter for details as this year progresses.
