[NYLINE] Appointments to the Regents Advisory Council on Libraries

The New York State Board of Regents has appointed Claudia Depkin and Colleen Sadowski to the Regents Advisory Council on Libraries.  The terms for Ms. Depkin and Ms. Sadowski will be from January 1, 2014 until September 30, 2018.

Ms. Depkin is the Director of the Haverstraw King’s Daughters Public Library.  Prior to this position, Ms. Depkin was the Director at the Tuxedo Park Library and Woodbury Public Library.  She received her Advanced Certificate in Public Library Administration from Long Island University and her Master of Library Science, Archives and Records Management degree from SUNY Albany.  Ms. Depkin is currently the Chair of the Directors Association of the Ramapo Catskill Library System and is President of the New York Library Association’s Leadership & Management Section.

Ms. Sadowski is currently the Instructional Director of School Library System and Media Services at the Rochester City School District.  Prior to this position, she was a Library Media Specialist with the Rochester City School District.  Ms. Sadowski is a Doctoral Student in Educational Administration at the University of Rochester and earned her Master of Science Library and Information Science at Syracuse University.  She is currently active in the American Library Association, the American Association of School Librarians and the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development.

Other members of the Council are:  John Hammond, Potsdam;  Norman Jacknis, Cortlandt Manor; Mary Jean Jakubowski, Buffalo;  Sara Kelly Johns, Saranac Lake;  Steven Manning, Elmira;  Mary Muller, Troy; Sharon Orienter, Rochester; Louise Sherby, New York City; Ann Thornton, New York City; and Jacquelyn Thresher, Uniondale.  Bridget Quinn Carey and John Monahan completed their terms as of September 30, 2013.

The Regents Advisory Council on Libraries works with the officers of the State Education Department in developing comprehensive statewide library and information policy, and makes recommendations to the Regents concerning the implementation of the program.  The Council is broadly representative of libraries and statewide constituencies served by the New York State Library.   For more information about the Regents Advisory Council, visit the State Library’s website at:
