Moving Forward - LTA's Vision for 2014
Winter 2014 issue of Trustee
LTA, New York State’s only chartered organization for public library trustees, is your organization – and we need you to be an active part of it. We need your input and your representation on LTA’s board. We need your ideas, your experience, and we also need your library or system’s membership.
The more ideas we have, the more representation we have. The more members LTA has, the more connected and united we can be when defining our goals and the more driven we can be in accomplishing them.
Below is an outline of some of the priorities that LTA will be focusing on as we head into 2014:
While LTA is a public library trustee association whose primary mission is to educate, represent and advocate for trustees and their libraries/systems — we know that we can only be successful by reaching out, collaborating, and supporting other organizations in achieving their own goals. We aim to do our part to make sure that everyone in the library community is on the same page and working together.
LTA supports NYLA’s Legislative Priority of fully funding NYS libraries at $102M as stipulated in Education Law. Advocacy Day is February 27, 2014 this year. There are many ways trustees can show support and make their voices heard – but the most powerful message trustees can send to legislators is by showing up in Albany this year en masse. When trustees speak, legislators listen.
LTA also supports advocacy for libraries at local levels. We want to inspire your peers by sharing your library’s accomplishments and innovative ideas about how you “get the word out.”
LTA Board Representation
In order to be truly representative, LTA needs Board Members from each system. LTA has a fantastic and dedicated group of Board Members who work hard to provide you with the services that you need. Imagine how much more could be accomplished with your help.
LTA is in the process of updating its long-range plan. In the upcoming months you may be asked to take a short online survey so we can get your ideas about how we can improve services going forward.
Services and Resources
LTA plans to increase its member only services, branch out into social media, and provide more webinars and online training tools. We also continue to expand our website resources, and provide monthly features with slide shows and pertinent articles. LTA will also continue to improve and expand its Policy Database which now has over 3000 searchable policies.
LTA plans to focus more on direct outreach with systems, library organizations and library boards. Whenever possible, we would love to meet with you to hear your ideas, along with being available for direct communication with trustees and directors online.
To share information we need to make sure we have your current contact information, including your e-mail addresses. (Contact information can be updated by logging into your library’s account through LTA’ s website. All contact information is kept confidential.)
Thank you to everyone who has renewed their memberships for 2014. If you ever have any questions, need help, or just wish to share ideas, please contact Tim Gavin at firstname.lastname@example.org.
