From the Editor's Desk
Winter 2017 issue of TrusteeI hope you enjoyed a holiday season filled with friends, family and time to relax. Now it is time to move into the new year.
LTA is getting 2017 off to a busy start. At our November business meeting, the LTA board elected two new board members and you'll meet them in this issue. We are delighted to maintain a connection with the Westchester Library System and expand our reach to the Buffalo Erie County Library System. Because of timing during May 2017, LTA won't be sponsoring a full Annual Trustee Institute this year. We WILL be co sponsoring two regional mini-institutes. Preliminary details on the first event are on page ? Of this issue. The second regional meeting will be later this Summer. Both will be chock full of interesting workshops and networking opportunities, so I hope you will attend the one nearest you.
You will read more about some of LTA's goals in our "Vision" article, written by our Executive Director, Tim Gavin. Our goals are based on input from the State Library, library professionals, and what we learn from you, our LTA members. Thank you to those boards who have renewed your memberships for 2017. I encourage others who have not yet renewed to please do so. While concentrating on the needs of your libraries in the present, it is important to keep an eye on the future. LTA can help you be effective in both timelines.
At the November meeting, the board also finalized officers for 2017. We bid a sad farewell to Tish Fontanella. Tish has been a vibrant member of LTA for the past 6 years, ending her participation as President. Her energy and leadership will be missed. Officers for the 2017 term are: Adria Ripka, Onondaga County Public Library system representative, President; Martha Anderson, Ramapo Catskill Library System representative, Vice-President; Bola Majekodunmi, Nassau Library System, Treasurer; and John McCarthy, Upper Hudson Library System, Secretary.
With a solid long range plan in place, the LTA board will continue to work together and build on our past success. As president, I hope to keep things moving in a positive direction and know this executive team will work well together. I will continue in the role of editor for the Trustee, and may combine presidential comments with the editorial. Mary Ellen Darling, our member representing the Pioneer Library System, will be taking over the role of managing the website.
All of us on the LTA board of directors wish you happiness and success in the New Year!
