LTA will be holding a Trustee Training Program during the conference. It will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012 from 9:30 – 12:00.
Developing “your role” as a trustee
This interactive workshop will focus on how a trustee’s effort at growing their role through education can contribute to building a more effective board, improve relationships with each other and form successful partnerships with their library director. LTA trustee certification credit will be given to attendees.
Mary Ellen O’Connor is President of the Board of the Library Trustees Association of NYS and represents the Upper Hudson Library System. She just completed 10 years as a Trustee at the Albany Public Library Board of Trustees and served in various leadership roles. Mary Ellen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from The College of St. Rose in Albany, and is a graduate of the Women’s Campaign School at Yale. She is a Political Campaign Consultant and published writer.
John Eberhardt represents the Suffolk County Library System and is a Trustee on the South Huntington Public Library Board. John received his Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY Buffalo and is pursuing his MLS at Queens College. He is on the Board of Hofstra University’s alumni theatre group, Gray Wig, and is a member of Friends of OHEKA Castle. John is a retired shop steward, organizer and contract negotiator for the International Association of Machinists (IAM).
Also checkout “Library Trustees and Liability”, presented by Joseph Eisner of Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library, Friday 11am to 12:15pm. This presentation by a retired library director and current chair of a library board will be followed by a question & answer period. It will explore the potential liability for public and association library trustees.
