Library trustees did just that at the 2105 The NYLA Conference in Lake Placid. More Trustees each year are finding the conferences presents opportunities for the entire library community, trustees as well as professionals.

The LTA sponsored workshop —Simple Strategic Planning —addressed a common problem, judging from the standing room attendance. Lauren Moore, Executive Director and Ron Kirsop, Assistant Director, from the Pioneer Library System have developed a simple strategic planning process that any library can implement.

Working with several libraries, they have reduced an overwhelming list of “must dos” to an attainable list of “can dos.” Participants came away with online resources to solicit community and library staff input, and to set priorities and establish timelines for creating a workable strategic plan.

The Handbook for Library Trustees of New York State 2015 edition, was presented by the authors, Jerry Nichols, Palmer School of Library and Information Science, Long Island University and Rebekkah Smith Aldrich, Mid-Hudson Library System, Poughkeepsie, NY. Many trustees found their way to the LTA booth to meet and greet fellow trustees and discover member services available through the LTA website and newsletters.
